Explore Flensburg
Flensburg is at its best when you know where to turn. Through a gateway on Rote Straße, into a merchant’s courtyard where rum was once stored, or down to a beach that hardly anyone but the locals knows.
Boutiquehotel Petuh is a hidden gem itself: 20 rooms on a quiet side street, 200 metres from the harbour. From here the old town is on foot, the beaches of the fjord are minutes away and Denmark is a quarter of an hour by car. Close. Closer. Petuh.
On these pages we share what we recommend to our guests at reception. All tried and tested, always with the way from our door.

Frequently asked questions about Flensburg
What are the best insider tips in Flensburg?
Our favourites: the merchant courtyards on Rote Straße, the rum museum in the cellar of the Maritime Museum, the Idstedt Lion in the Old Cemetery and an early morning at Ostseebad beach. More in our guide The old town on foot.
Can you explore Flensburg without a car?
Yes. The old town, the harbour and the museums are all within walking distance of Boutiquehotel Petuh, most of them in under 15 minutes. For the beaches along the fjord, borrow an e-bike at reception.
How far is it to Denmark?
By car you reach the border at Kruså in about 15 minutes. The palace garden in Gråsten is around half an hour away, Sønderborg about 45 minutes.
What can you do in Flensburg when it rains?
The Maritime Museum with its rum museum, the Museumsberg and the Phänomenta science centre at Nordertor are good choices. Afterwards, the Klönschnackstube awaits with coffee, tea and our northern German Abendbrot.
Is Flensburg worth visiting in winter?
Absolutely. In winter the old town belongs to the locals, the fjord is calm and the Christmas market opens in mid-November. After a walk by the water, the Klönschnackstube is the cosiest place in town.
